The Oregon Golf Club (with Peter Jacobson) Host of the PGA Tour Fred Meyer Challenge A private club in suburban Portland that was co-designed with PGA Tour star Peter Jacobsen, the Oregon Golf Club opened in 1992 and soon thereafter became the popular host of the PGA TourŐs nationally-televised Fred Meyer Challenge. Spectacular views of Mt. Hood, the Willamette River and the valley's rolling hills are among the highlights. Priority was given to preserving the natural surroundings which give the course its rustic character. The course sports classic, old-fashioned rectangular tees, rows of tall pines and firs, wildflowers and meandering creeks. The signature hole is the 173-yard, par-3 12th, which plays over a huge bed of roses. LINKS Magazine featured the Oregon Golf Club as a "Modern Classic" in 1997; Golf Digest has ranked it as high as the sixth best course in Oregon and Golfweek has ranked it among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses."
