Ken Kavanaugh Golf Course Design, Inc. was founded in 1984, by principal and owner, Ken Kavanaugh, as a full-service golf course architecture firm. Ken is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) and has an unmatched passion for golf and design. Kavanaugh, a scratch golfer, is a former semifinalist in the Arizona State Amateur, and winner of the 1994 Pima County (Tucson) Amateur Championship.

Based on a philosophy of strong commitment to client service, the firm has remained small by choice. Mr. Kavanaugh accepts only the number of design commissions that will allow him to play an active, personal role during construction, a strong benefit for both the Project Manager and the golf course contractor. Every golf course designed by Ken Kavanaugh is unique. This stems from Ken’s philosophy that the natural land, its surrounds and the site’s overall ambience should dictate the ultimate character of the course. Where the land is lacking in natural-looking golf features, Ken will create them, subscribing to the dictum expressed by master golden Age architect Alister MacKenzie in 1920: “The chief object of every golf architect…is to imitate the beauties of nature so closely as to make his work indistinguishable from nature itself.”

“I do not have a general style; I don’t ever want to be known for a certain recognizable style of course. Rather, the style is unique to a particular project. The marriage of Client criteria and site characteristics always yields a unique golf course.
